World Cleanup Day took place this year on 15 September.
It is the world’s largest civic initiative, originating in and led from Estonia.
The year 2018 marks 100 years since the founding of the Republic of Estonia and World Cleanup Day 2018 is Estonia’s biggest gift to the world on its 100th anniversary. 13 million people from 155 countries around the globe cleaned up the World together all in same day.
“Since Estanc`s mission is to support the creation of a more sustainable world, we didn’t think twice about participating in the action,” says Head of HR, Siret Raigla. “World Cleanup Day’s message speaks to us. Its purpose has never been purely about cleaning up trash. It also works to raise global awareness and implement lasting changes to end the global waste epidemic.”
Estanc’s team gathered in Nõmme park, where the forest was cleaned from trash like empty bottles, old tires and even furniture.
About 4500m3 of waste was gathered from 9500 Estonians who participated in the action.
